DES MOINES, Iowa – Homesteaders Life Co. COO, Steve Lang, has announced that Marla G. Lacey has joined the company as vice president and associate general counsel, responsible for overseeing legal and compliance matters, according to a news release.
“I am delighted to have Marla join our legal team,” Lang said. “Marla brings excellent experience in both corporate and private legal practice along with insurance compliance expertise. In addition, Marla is committed to helping our customers succeed, while ensuring that Homesteaders continues managing our business with the highest level of ethics, integrity and adherence to the laws and regulations that govern the pre-need insurance industry.”
Lacey comes to Homesteaders from American Equity Investment Life Insurance Co. in West Des Moines, which she joined in 2008 and where she served most recently as VP-Chief Compliance Officer. She also served five years at AvivaUSA in Des Moines, most recently as assistant general counsel, and prior to that was in private practice. Lacey earned her Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 2004 and her chartered Financial Consultant designation in 2005. She received her undergraduate degree from Drake University and her law degree from the University of Iowa.

Lacey will lead the Homesteaders in-house legal team including Gerry Kraus, VP-Compliance and Tracy Kelly, Director-Compliance and Government Relations. Former Homesteaders chief counsel, George A. Wilson will continue to serve as outside general counsel during the transition phase.
