Homesteaders Welcomes New CFO

Homesteaders Life Company welcomed its new Executive VP-Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Steve W. Pick on April 1. Pick replaces the retiring Glen Hare, who will stay with the company through the end of this year.

Pick comes to Homesteaders from Alliance Commercial Partners in Denver, CO where he served as CFO. Prior to that, Pick spent 20 years with Principal Financial Group, including 10 years as CFO of one of its member companies, before joining Aviva Investors as VP-Business Planning. Pick has a BS in Accounting and Economics from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA and is a Fellow in the Life Management Institute.

Chief Operating Officer Steve Lang says Pick’s background made him a great candidate for the position. “With experience at companies such as Principal and Aviva, Steve will bring a fresh, new perspective to Homesteaders while continuing our tradition of conservative and prudent financial management,” Lang said.

“I’m excited to join the Homesteaders’ financial team, which has a strong foundation established by Glen,” Pick says. “Together we will reinforce and build upon Homesteaders’ commitment to financial security and our leadership role in the funeral funding industry. As a member of the executive team, I will actively participate in the company’s strategic and tactical planning process.”

Pick is responsible for directing the company’s treasury function and investment strategy as well as oversight of the investment portfolio. He will also direct all facets of the accounting and reporting functions, including regulatory filings, rating agency coordination, and external audit coordination.

Homesteaders Life Company is focused solely on funeral insurance funding and support and according to a recent study, is the most often used pre-need funding company in America. Visit their website for more information.
