Homesteaders Named a Top Iowa Workplace for 2013

Des Moines, Iowa — Homesteaders Life Company, a national leader in prearranged funeral funding and support, has been named a Top Iowa Workplace for 2013 by The Des Moines Register, according to a news release.

The annual Top Workplaces honors are awarded to outstanding employers based on scores from employee surveys. These employee opinion results are gathered by WorkplaceDynamics. Homesteaders employees provided positive feedback on many workplace characteristics. Some comment highlights from Homesteaders employees include:

• “Homesteaders truly cares about the employees on both a professional and a personal level. They consistently work to find ways to help us grow/achieve our goals. They show their appreciation routinely.”

• “I am able to use my personal strengths to help people.”

• “Homesteaders is like a family – truly a team atmosphere and no ‘politics’ of a corporation. Everyone supports others in efforts to provide outstanding service.”

Homesteaders’ Chairman and President Graham Cook cites a shared commitment to the company’s values as one of the key reasons Homesteaders was named a Top Workplace. “At Homesteaders, we share the goals of promoting the value of funeral service, and looking for new and better ways to serve our customers,” Cook says. Homesteaders employees “understand that we provide a very important service that will help our customers during a difficult time in their lives,” says Homesteaders Chief Operating Officer Steve Lang.

A company culture that fosters professional growth and leadership is also a big contributor to employees’ positive feedback, says EVP-HR and Administration Judy Ralston-Hansen. “The Homesteaders culture supports employees and works to meet their professional and personal goals,” Ralston-Hansen says. “Employees are given opportunities to demonstrate leadership and grow within the company.”
