WHEELING, ILL. — The Cremation Association of North America's Crematory Operations Certification Program (COCP) was a great success in Oklahoma City. An audience of 30 attendees — from Oklahoma, Kansas, North Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, and Quebec, Canada — met Oct. 18, at the Hilton Garden Inn in North Quail Springs to benefit from a curriculum designed by practitioners, crematory manufacturers and an attorney specializing in cremation law.
Attendees included crematory owners and operators, funeral directors and three state regulators. The various components of the program were taught by practitioner Mike Sheedy (Pinecrest Remembrance Services), manufacturer Larry Stuart, Jr. (Crematory Manufacturing & Service Inc.) and attorney Chris Farmer (Sheehy, Ware & Pappas, P.C.). According to the overwhelmingly positive survey of participants taken at the close of the program, CANA’s COCP lived up to its reputation as the most comprehensive educational program in the industry, presenting the best policies, practices, and procedures for assisting the families who choose cremation as their method of memorialization and disposition. With a freshly revised and substantive manual and state of the art animation to walk participants through the components and function of cremation machinery, this COCP is up-to-date, relevant and accessible.
CANA has certified thousands of operators and owners over the past 20 years. The program is endorsed by Kates-Boylston, National Funeral Directors Association, Funeral and Memorial Information Council, state boards and state associations, and has been included as a curriculum requirement at Worsham College of Mortuary Science. CEUs are available in numerous states. Check with CANA Headquarters at 312-245-1077 to determine if your state has already granted approval.
