FDLIC Awards Memorial Scholarship to Mortuary Student

ABILENE, Texas – Funeral Directors Life Insurance Co. has awarded a Memorial Scholarship to Kyle Dungan to help him pursue his education as a mortuary school student, according to a news release.

FDLIC is proud to support future funeral service professionals through the Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Memorial Scholarship Fund is perpetually supported by FDLIC and by the generosity of donors.

Dungan recently graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in mass communications and is now pursuing his sssociate of applied science degree in mortuary science from Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas. He expects to graduate in the fall of 2015.

"Kyle is well-versed in technology and mass communications, and he has a heart for service and a desire to learn from mentors in the profession," said Jeff Stewart, scholarship committee chairman. "We are proud to support young leaders in the funeral service profession like Kyle."

"I am excited about Kyle going into funeral service," said Todd Abell, owner of Abell Funeral Homes in Abernathy and Hale Center, Texas. "He has many of the qualities that will make an exceptional funeral director. He is extremely personable and compassionate, he pays attention to detail, and he is well-received by everyone he has met."

"I wanted to thank FDLIC for awarding me this scholarship," Dungan said. "I'd also like to thank Todd Abell for the chance to assist with funeral services in his funeral home. I have loved every minute of my time spent at the funeral home, and there is no doubt this is what I want to do. It has been such a learning experience being under a very experienced funeral director."
